Weekend Project: How to Upgrade Your SSD using Sabrent M.2 NVMe Enclosure, Macrium Reflect, and MiniTool Partition Wizard on Windows

Upgrading your SSD is a common task to improve storage performance or capacity. Using the Sabrent M.2 NVMe Enclosure, Macrium Reflect (older free version), and MiniTool Partition Wizard, you can easily clone and upgrade your drive. Here’s how:

1. Insert the New SSD into the Sabrent Enclosure

• Open the tool-free Sabrent M.2 NVMe enclosure and insert your new SSD into it. Ensure that it is securely connected.
• Close the enclosure.

2. Connect the Sabrent Enclosure to Your PC

• Using the USB cable, plug the enclosure into your Windows PC. Windows should recognize it as an external drive.

3. Download and Install Macrium Reflect Free (Old Version)

• Visit the official Macrium Reflect download page to get an older version that still offers free cloning functionality. Install it on your PC.

4. Clone the Existing SSD with Macrium Reflect

• Launch Macrium Reflect and select your current system drive (old SSD).
• Choose the new SSD (in the Sabrent enclosure) as the destination.
• Use the Clone this disk option to copy your entire system to the new SSD.
• Ensure partitions are properly aligned, and start the cloning process. This may take some time, depending on the size of your drive.

5. Download and Install MiniTool Partition Wizard

• Visit the official MiniTool Partition Wizard website to download the free version. Install the software.
• After cloning, you may find that the new SSD has unallocated space, especially if it’s larger than your old one. Open MiniTool Partition Wizard, select the new SSD, and use the Move/Resize Partition option to extend your system partition and make use of the full storage capacity.

6. Replace the Old SSD with the New SSD

• Once cloning is complete, shut down your PC and remove the old SSD.
• Replace it with the new SSD that you cloned (remove it from the Sabrent enclosure and install it internally).
• Power on your PC, and it should boot from the new SSD seamlessly.

7. Verify the New SSD is Functioning Properly

• Upon booting into Windows, ensure everything is functioning correctly. Check all programs, files, and settings to confirm the cloning was successful.
