Architectural Renderings of ExteriorsIn exterior architectural scenes there is only one main light source, the sun. The remaining lighting is an overall evenly coloured ambient glow from the sky. Due to the overpowering effect that both these light sources have the need for radiosity is minimized as reflected light is only a small part of the overall solution.

The main obstacle with exterior scenes is landscaping. Plants are difficult to model in 3D and consume vast amounts of computer memory and CPU cycles.

Creating an exterior architectural rendering in 3D requires:

CAD modelling
The shell of the building is created including the pathways, terrain, garden beds and hard landscaping features.

Architectural Renderings of Interiors

Interiors are still considered the hardest renderings to create, although the process has improved. This is not due to what is actually within the scene, but how it is lit. Lighting in interior architectural renderings is what makes or breaks the 3D scene.

Over the years the actual computer rendering technology improved with techniques like global illumination and radiosity. The task of lighting the scene accurately can be taken up by the computer using radiosity and global illumination solutions help automate a lighting solution by simulating ambient light.

By far the most 3D renderings within new property developments come from the apartments or condos. While the exterior of the building may only require two or three renderings, the interiors require up to twenty per apartment. Fortunately Archiform 3D only charges for the scene, not the architectural rendering, so whether you get ten or 20 renderings the price remains the same.

What we need to create architectural renderings of apartments:

To create the scenes we need CAD files, interior colors and finishes, furniture selections and fabrics. The furniture selections can often be the most difficult to choose, so we have create an extensive catalogue for you to choose from. The process has never been easier.

Animations and fly-through video of apartments

We aim for our animated video to be done to the same quality as our still architectural renderings.

Finished animations can be displayed on TV, DVD or the internet. They can be rendered to standard or high definition depending on your needs.

Photomontage Architectural Renderings

Photomontage renderings are most useful for exterior architectural scenes. The process involves taking a photograph and then blending an exterior scene with it.

Creating an exterior architectural rendering in 3D requires:

  • Exterior Architectural Rendering
  • Specialised Photography
  • Compositing

Specialised Photography for 3D

It takes a completely different skill set to that of normal photographers with more emphasis on time of day, framing, foreground, background, exposure and a complete knowledge of the 3D process.
Compositing

Is the process of combining two or more images, in this case we take one 3D and one photographic image, they are then merged into the “montage” which makes our “photomontage”. We use Adobe Photoshop and utilize its advanced tools in masking, cropping and colour correction, to create photo-realistic images.

Photomontage architectural renderings can be used in the following types of projects: residential buildings, resorts, golf courses, gardens, pool areas, marinas and many other structures.

They can also be used for some interior scenes but only to a limited degree, unless you are creating a flat image.
